Policy Centre responds to Statistics Users Group survey
The Policy Centre has responded to the Statistics Users Group 2024 survey. The summary of the response is -
· The surveys undertaken by Statistics Jersey are immaculate. High quality statistics are produced strictly in accordance with a published schedule. There is scope for some minor improvements in the presentation of statistics.
· Government departments seem to have given up publishing statistics on areas for which they are responsible. The only way of accessing much information is through the laborious process of making Freedom of Information requests.
· The excellent Engagement and InformationImprovement report published in 2022 had as one of its recommendations “Statistics and data should be findable in a single location on gov.je”. It has yet to happen.
· Publishing comprehensive statistics on the key areas for which government is responsible - health, education, transport, housing and taxation - should be a priority.
· The consultation itself is deficient, in particular by having no specified closing date, being confined to Jersey residents and requiring responses to specified questions through a closed question survey.
