Jersey is a British Crown Dependency and, while Britain ultimately has some responsibility for international affairs, Jersey has a great deal of autonomy, which it uses in particular to promote the financial services industry. The Island needs to preserve good relations not only with the UK but also with France and, because of the importance of its finance industry, with other jurisdictions.
