Think piece on family policy and economic sustainability

The Policy Centre has published a think piece on family policy and economic sustainability by Denise Heavey, a Jersey-based writer, family and mental health advocate, and recruiter.

This think piece argues that pressures on working parents should be understood as a core public policy issue rather than a niche social concern. Drawing on local lived experience, labour market analysis and international evidence, it examines how childcare systems, workplace design and family policy intersect in Jersey. It concludes that strengthening childcare infrastructure, supporting flexible job design and enabling more equal parenting are not simply matters of social support, but strategic investments in workforce participation, talent retention and the long-term economic sustainability of Jersey.
